How to Read the PST to GMT Converter

Pick a PST hour and read across to the GMT column. The table accounts for whether the West Coast is on standard time or daylight time, so you never apply the wrong offset. For reverse conversions (GMT to PST), subtract the offset instead.

When Is PST 8 Hours Behind GMT?

PST (UTC−8) is exactly 8 hours behind GMT (UTC+0). This is a fixed relationship during standard time:

PST GMT
00:00 (midnight) 08:00
04:00 12:00 (noon)
08:00 16:00
12:00 (noon) 20:00

The 8-hour gap applies from November to March, when both the US West Coast and the UK are on standard time.

Does PDT Change the PST to GMT Conversion?

The West Coast does not stay on PST year-round. From spring to autumn, it switches to Pacific Daylight Time (PDT, UTC−7). This changes the conversion to GMT:

  • PST (winter): UTC−8 → 8 hours behind GMT
  • PDT (summer): UTC−7 → 7 hours behind GMT

If you use the 8-hour rule during summer, your meeting will be one hour off.

2026 transition dates for Pacific Time: - Spring forward (PST → PDT): Sunday 8 March 2026, 02:00 local - Fall back (PDT → PST): Sunday 1 November 2026, 02:00 local

2027 transition dates: - Spring forward: Sunday 14 March 2027 - Fall back: Sunday 7 November 2027

When Does the UK Change Its Clocks?

The UK also changes its clocks. During summer, the UK switches from GMT (UTC+0) to British Summer Time (BST, UTC+1).

The US and UK do not change clocks on the same dates. The US springs forward earlier in March and falls back later in November than the UK. During the crossover weeks, the time difference between the West Coast and London shifts.

Practical effect: - When both are on standard time (roughly November to March): PST is 8 hours behind GMT. - When both are on daylight time (roughly April to October): PDT is 8 hours behind BST (UTC+1). - During the crossover periods in spring and autumn: the difference is 7 hours.

For the most accurate conversion during transition periods, use the converter above rather than a fixed rule.

Common PST to GMT Conversions

Pacific Time GMT (winter) / BST (summer)
06:00 PT 14:00 GMT / 14:00 BST
09:00 PT 17:00 GMT / 17:00 BST
12:00 PT 20:00 GMT / 20:00 BST
15:00 PT 23:00 GMT / 23:00 BST
21:00 PT 05:00 GMT (next day) / 05:00 BST (next day)

During summer, PDT to BST is also 8 hours, so the conversion numbers look the same even though the underlying offsets changed. The difference only appears during the crossover weeks.
